The 2006 home football season has drawn to a close. The Aggies did well this season playing their hearts out in some disappointing losses and showing their muscle in some convincing wins. Just as the Aggies are starting to find their stride with Coach Fran at the helm, 2006 broke new ground around the Bus. The largest difference between this season and the prior ones was the number of people attending the tailgates. In 2004 a big game meant an empty keg and a couple hundred dollars worth of groceries; a good crowd was upwards of 30-35 people at any one time. It appears that times have changed. This season we had crowds in excess of four to five times that. The food budget rivaled that of the football team and for the first time we had a line item for entertainment when a live band performed at the Texas Tech game. It was a real pleasure to welcome old friends at the Bus and meet so many new ones. We hope that when we get ready to kick off the 2007 football season we have several new names to put up on the Bus to go with all the regulars.
There aren't enough thanks to go around for all the individuals who stepped up and helped handle the excess workload this year. From running the pit all day to making beer runs or hauling ice chests from the Valley there was an army of individuals who helped get it all done. One thing we can be sure of, all of that work will have to be done again in '07 and we'll welcome all that help back.
In addition to having a good times before and after football games the crowd at the Short Bus took on an additional goal of funding an Endowed Scholarship in memory of one of our own, Matthew Worrell '94. At the end of the home season the total in that account had reached the $7,500 mark. That is 1/3 of the way to the goal of $25,000; the amount required to endow a Sul Ross Corps Scholarship. We hope donations in the off-season and during the 2007 season will allow us to complete this endeavor. Everyone at the Short Bus looks forward to the day that our scholarship recipient can join us at the tailgate. If you haven't had a part in this undertaking and would like to do so please see our Scholarship page.
Thank you,
The Busdrivers.
